Finding the right clothes for your body

Have you ever been in a situation where you see a dress or maybe a pair of jeans, and you are totally drawn to them, falling instantly in love? But then, you try them on and everything comes crashing down because they look awful on you… And that basically sums up most shopping experiences! Why? Because that particular piece of clothing is just not for your body type, simple. And the thing is, most of us are unaware of this. Simply put, your body type is the outline of your structure. Think of your body silhouette… In this article, you will find the basic guidelines you need to keep in mind in order to find the perfect garment for your body type.

At Moda Dulce we believe that fashion is about feeling great in the looks we love and feeling great about who we are. We all have different body types but there are certain guidelines, not rules, that you can follow which will help you learn how to dress for your body shape and play with your favorite features to highlight them in style. The idea here is to make sure that the clothes we choose sit beautifully and enhance our looks for an even better looking silhouette. Short, tall, slender, curvy, etc., do not determine your body type, the body parts do.

So, first things first: Are you familiar with your body measurements? The surest way to figure them out is by taking four body measurements: shoulders, bust, waist, and hips. The relationship among these numbers will reveal the shape of your frame which will help you decide what body type your silhouette falls into. So grab your measuring tape, strip down to your underwear, and get started.

 4 Different types

Now that you know your measurements you can decipher your body type. While there are many different body shapes out there, most women align with one of the main four female body types: Apple, Pear, hourglass, or Rectangle.

 Different body types

Apple Shaped Body Type

aka inverted triangle.

You may be this body type if…

  • Your waist is wider than your bust
  • You consider yourself to have fuller hips
  • You have narrower shoulders in comparison to your hips
  • You have a fuller rear

The idea here is to take the attention away from the upper part of the body and highlight your strengths. That’s why you need to flaunt your legs or wear tops and blouses with V or deep V necklines that created an elongated illusion of the torso.

Hourglass Shaped Body type

aka a curvy shape.

You may be this body type if…

  • You’d describe your body as curvy
  • You have a well defined waist
  • Your bust and hip measurements are roughly even
  • You may have fuller bust hips, and thighs

Since you have a well-balanced figure, your clothes should do the same as well. Clothes should sit well at the right curves and follow the outline of these curves. Make the most of it, because not everybody has this!

Pear

aka a triangle shape.

You may be this body type if…

  • Your waist is wider than your bust
  • You consider yourself to have fuller hips
  • You have narrower shoulders in comparison to your hips
  • You have a fuller rear

So, your shoulders are narrow, and hips are wide.  All you have to do is to strike a balance. Or, wear outfits that enhance your lower body, either way, works well. The advantage of this body type is that you can create an illusion of an hourglass figure.

Rectangle

aka athletic or straight shape.

You may be this body type if…

  • You’re not particularly curvy
  • You’re shoulders and hip measurements are nearly the same
  • Your waist isn’t very small or well defined, but rather straight up and down
  • Your weight is fairly evenly distributed throughout your body

Your arms and legs are the assets. So, focus on enhancing that. It’s like the hourglass figure minus the defined waistline.

Everybody and every body is different. If you’re not one of these shapes—that’s ok! Let’s be honest—most women are a combination of several! You at least know that if a garment is not fitting or not looking a certain way, it does not imply that you’re out of shape and disproportionate. At Moda Dulce we have the perfect garments so you can look and feel great about your body shape and enhance your assets. It’s all about mixing & matching until you find what’s best for you.
